Council of Europe – February 2026
Visual Workshop for Trainers Countering Hate Speech
Visual thinking as a tool to connect, co-create and empower those fighting hate speech.
Design and facilitation of a participatory visual workshop as part of the Council of Europe's Training of Trainers on preventing hate speech through awareness raising and education, held in Strasbourg from 3 to 6 February 2026, in collaboration with the Council of Europe's No Hate Speech and Cooperation Unit.
Marina Roa took part as a visual thinker in an event organised by the Council of Europe, focused on training trainers to counter hate speech through counter-narratives and human rights education. Throughout the gathering, she guided the group through visual facilitation dynamics to synthesise the key ideas shared by speakers, experts and participants.
The session, held in Strasbourg from 3 to 6 February 2026, brought together 32 trainers, multipliers and civil society representatives from different European countries. It addressed the theoretical and policy frameworks of the Council of Europe and the European Union on combating hate speech, as well as the practical application of counter and alternative narratives (CANs) and human rights education (HRE) as tools to prevent and counter it.
Through live graphic facilitation, Marina turned complex content into accessible visual narratives, helping to reinforce the event's key messages and making them easier to understand, remember and share afterwards. Her work helped turn the conversation on human rights and the fight against hate speech into a clearer, more participatory and memorable experience.
